The United Kingdom Personal Training Association (UKPTA) was set up in 2020, due to the increasing demand for regulation within the fitness industry. There are tens of thousands of fitness instructors and personal trainers working across the UK with no accrediting body or framework for individuals to follow, until now.
At the UKPTA we pride ourselves on creating a community where fitness professionals can share their knowledge, communicate and develop themselves, through membership, accreditation and continued professional development courses. We want to help every member to stand out in a busy industry, from those just getting started to highly qualified and experienced trainers.
Meet the Team
Matt started his career as a Strength & Conditioning coach, working primarily within Mixed Martial Arts and Football, before graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Sports Science & Biomedicine. Shortly after, he Commissioned as an Officer in the British Army, but continued to work privately with elite athletes from a variety of sports. Following this, he worked alongside England Rugby, whilst completing a PhD in Sports Science at the University of Bath, where he specialised in Injury Epidemiology and Performance Analysis. His love for the fitness industry prompted him to develop the UKPTA.
Alex's background is in Marketing in the business-to-business tech and software-as-a-service world. He has worked at director level in multiple London based marketing agencies, working with clients to build and execute plans for how to take their product or service to market, whilst effectively communicating and interacting with their customer and follower base. He has worked closely with both established enterprises and startups and it was a keen interest in startups, as well as a love of encouraging communities to engage with one another, that attracted him to co-founding the UKPTA.
